Lassila to be honored in Snowbasin Utah

 

2010 Olympic Champion aerial skier, Lydia Lassila will have a gondola cabin dedicated to her on Sunday 29th January, at the Snowbasin resort in Utah.

 

Snowbasin is the North American home base of the Australian Aerial Skiing program – “the Flying Kangaroos” and a long term supporter of Lassila and her team mates on the National Team.

 

Lassila who gave birth to her first child in May, 2011 is on track to return to international competition in late 2012, in the quest to defend her Olympic Championship. Lassila will be joining other members of the Flying Kangaroos in Utah, for a ski camp at the end of January.

 

Lassila commented from her home in Melbourne Australia: “I am so thrilled that Snowbasin have chosen to recognize me. I look forward to being at Snowbasin at the end of the month, meeting all of our many friends in the community, and just cannot wait to put my skis on and head out skiing.“

 

Olympic Winter Institute of Australia Chairman, Geoffrey J Henke AO, praised the resort upon learning of the recognition of Lassila:

 

”Snowbasin has been just so important for our athletes, it really is the Crown Jewel of ski resorts, and our team has been extremely fortunate to have had the benefit of training and skiing at a World Class facility.

 

We are appreciative that Lydia will be the second of our athletes to be honored with a gondola car dedication, joining 2002 Olympic Champion Alisa Camplin. As an organization we are very proud to have Mrs. Carol Holding as the only honorary member of the Flying Kangaroos, and we remain thankful to Carol and her husband Earl for their ongoing support of our young athletes”

We will begin the season with 12″+ of new snow since Friday night and with extensive snowmaking Snowbasin will be boasting a base averaging between 18-24 inches on top to bottom runs.

Two lifts will be operating: Needles Gondola and Little Cat Express Quad, and the following runs will be groomed: Sweet Revenge, Bear Hollow, Snowshoe, Powder Puff, School Hill, Strawberry Traverse, Middle Bowl Traverse and Porcupine Traverse. The “RailGarden” terrain park will be open as well offering up to 9 rail features with more terrain and lifts to open as early as this weekend. Early day ticket rates will be offered starting at $34 for Youth through $58 for Adults.

Please ride with care as there will still be many obstacles on adjacent runs as well as hidden under the surface. For safety, hiking is no longer being permitted because of snowmaking, avalanche control, and grooming on the mountain. ]]> http://blog.snowbasin.com/2011/11/thanksjibbing-rail-jam/feed/ 3 High Temps and Rain End Summer Skiing/Snowboarding http://blog.snowbasin.com/2011/06/high-temps-and-rain-end-summer-skiingsnowboarding/ http://blog.snowbasin.com/2011/06/high-temps-and-rain-end-summer-skiingsnowboarding/#comments Tue, 21 Jun 2011 02:27:48 +0000 Jason Dyer http://blog.snowbasin.com/?p=2546 After several days of high temperatures and significant rain Snowbasin will no longer continue its summer Skiing and Snowboarding.  We had two great weeks of Skiing/Snowboarding off the Middle Bowl lift however summer has finally arrived melting away the necessary snow amount to operate in the lower elevations.  Though we are closed for lift access skiing/snowboarding, Snowbasin will be hosting a Rail Jam on Sunday July 3rd at Earl’s base area for both skiers and snowboarders.  In addition, Snowbasin has many summer events and activities including mountain top dining, lower elevation mountain bike trails, and a 9-hole disc golf course currently open to the public. Snowbasin is looking forward to lift accessed Mountain Biking and Hiking in weeks to come.  Keep an eye on the blog for an official opening date.

**The Snowbasin Rail Jam on July 3rd is NOT cancelled**
