Snowbasin’s Burger Bar: Something for Everyone

Kids enjoying food at Snowbasin resort

Those dog-days-of-summer… If you are a parent with school age kids, then sure, the summer might feel over. School is starting and life is becoming unmeasurable busy again.

But summer isn’t over! In fact, the weather is perfect in the mountains (you won’t melt sitting in the afternoon sun anymore) and Snowbasin still has some great weekends for Brews, Blues and BBQs lined up for the month of September.

So before summer slips through our fingers for good, we headed up to Snowbasin to grab some BBQ and play in the sun. We brought the mountain bikes, took to the trails and frolicked at the playground before lunch.

After the kids had worked up an appetite, we went in search of food. Snowbasin has a good thing going on when it comes to food. And not just for adults. But for kids too. We ordered a smattering of food including a “plain” cheeseburger (per request of the kids), all beef hot dog, and the pulled pork BBQ sandwich. There really is something for everyone, my kids loved it all.

And thank you Snowbasin for always being generous with the french fries!

But the biggest hit was the snow cones. :) “Mom, it is like ice cream only made out of snow!” And we all love the taste of snow at the end of a hot summer… Bring on Labor Day Weekend!

Desert Noises

Desert Noises is Kyle Henderson, Tyler Osmond, Patrick Boyer, and Brennan Allen, four adventurers from Utah Valley, UT. Ask about their recent musical influences, and you’ll extract a litany on the riches of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, and Tame Impala. If it seems an unlikely trio of choices, it simply means that you haven’t yet become acquainted with their propulsive, jangle-rich breed of rock ‘n roll. Desert Noises make music for shouting into canyons, jumping into rivers, and getting married to the wide-open road. With a strong maturity in their songwriting, they conjure the majesty of the American pastoral landscape.

While one can pick out definite strains of blues and Americana, their often-ferocious delivery and penchant for shredding guitars elicits a powerful transcendence into psychedelic rock. This is felt most strongly in their live performances, where they harness their visceral energy in new ways each night.

With a slow, deliberate build, the Ballroom Thieves make their presence known onstage immediately as the first chord is struck, transforming any size room, whether it be a large ballroom or a small club, into a remarkably intimate environment.

Formed in 2011, the Ballroom Thieves take the sincere, narrative blueprint of folk music and infuse it with the attitude of rock, the soul of blues, and the sweat and fervor of a revival tent. That spirit makes its way into both their recorded music as well as their live performances, as Martin Earley (guitar, vocals), Devin Mauch (percussion, vocals), and Calin Peters (cello, vocals) attack their instruments and harmonies with the same energy onstage as in the studio.

Garnering regional and national acclaim for both of their releases to date, 2012’s The Devil And The Deep, and 2013’s self-titled EP, the Thieves have been branching out from their native Boston. Their energy, passion, and songwriting craft earning them national touring spots with established bands such as the Lone Bellow, Dispatch, Little Green Cars, the Wheeler Brothers, and Houndmouth, among others.

Fly Paper:

With soulful vocals, fiercely elegant guitars, and a high energy rhythm section, Fly Paper never fail to inspire crowds throughout the country with their original songs. Micaela’s voice is often compared to that of Fiona Apple and Norah Jones. Her guitar playing carries on the traditions of Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmore, and Jimmy Page. Bassist Joe Chamberlin fills the space between with a modern rock style grounded in classic rock sensibilities. Sam Rice brings to the drums, the rock groove of Jimmy Chamberlin and the flair of Buddy Rich, while Saxman/Keyboardist Marty McLean puts the sax back in rock one note at a time. The four piece band fuses elements of rock, folk, and blues into an unforgettable musical experience. With catchy songs, command of their instruments, and a powerful stage presence, Fly Paper will be remembered long after the stage lights go out!

Blues, Brews & BBQ with Bullets & Belles and Screen Door Porch

BBB13_Simple_Web_RGB

Join us on the Patio at Earl’s Lodge Sunday, June 29th for our Blues, Brews & BBQ FREE Concert Series with Bullets & Belles playing “Neo-Doo-Wop-Folk” followed up by Screen Door Porch playing americana roots-rock. Bullets & Belles start at 12:30 pm with Screen Door Porch at 3:30 pm. For more information about Bullets & Belles and Screen Door Porch, check out the following links:

***No outside food or beverage allowed in the music venue or the lodge.  Utah State Law prohibits the possession and consumption of outside alcohol including beer & wine on premise.  Bags may be subject to search at the music venue gate and any alcohol or outside food may be confiscated.  Dogs are allowed in the music venue, but they must be on a leash at all times, and they must stay on the grassy areas.  Dogs are never allowed in the lodges or on the patio, with the exception of service dogs.

Screen Door Porch:

http://screendoorporch.com/

Screen Door Porch delivers a Wyoming-grown fusion of soulful Americana, Roots-Rock and Country-Blues that has been likened to “Gillian Welch meets The Band, with Ryan Adams and Bonnie Raitt hanging out backstage” (605 Magazine). The core female/male singer-songwriter duo of Seadar Rose & Aaron Davis thrive in a space that houses colorable harmonies, a diverse bag of acoustic & electric instrumentation, and  “a sort of Lennon/McCartney arrangement and get it right every time” (Americana UK). SDP’s two studio albums—Screen Door Porch (2010) and The Fate & The Fruit (2012)—were internationally recognized in a combined seven “Best Albums of the Year” lists, and hovered in the Top 25 of the Euro-Americana Chart and Top 30 of the Roots Music Report Roots-Rock Chart.

Bullets & Belles:

http://bulletsandbelles.com

Bullets & Belles is Neo-Doo-Wop-Folk. Think Amy Winehouse and Dion & The Belmonts, but also Arcade Fire and Les Paul. Their sublime three-part vocal harmonies and deeply-felt poetic lyrics seamlessly bend through the rules of genre while always leaving the audience wanting (and often whistling…)

The Wheeler Brothers:

http://www.wheelerbrothersmusic.com/

Making music continues to be a family affair for Wheeler Brothers. The Austin, TX quintet traces a personal lineage of rock, folk, roots, Americana, and blues on its second full-length album, Gold Boots Glitter [Bismeaux Records], cooking up an irresistible and inimitable gumbo of styles in the process. Marching forward from 2011′s critically acclaimed Portraits, the group—Nolan Wheeler [vocals, guitar], Patrick Wheeler [drums], Tyler Wheeler [bass], A.J. Molyneaux [guitar, lap steel, back up vocals], and Nathan Rigney [guitar, backup vocals]—opens the door even wider for everyone to join the family.

The Congress:

The Congress

Evoking emotions that you thought had long passed – the feeling of your first cigarette, or the way you feel listening to a worn vinyl as it warmly crackles against the sound of a summer night – The Congress is naturally compared to many names and styles of years gone by. But drawing such comparisons is, in many respects, a misguided endeavor. Misguided not because you’d be wrong, but because you’d be missing the beautiful point – The Congress are a natural evolution of more than 60 years of purely American music. With a spirit rooted just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and now calling Denver – “The Queen City of the West” – their home, they’ve got enough soul, grit, and have spent enough time in the woodshed and on the road to call them pretty much whatever you want. But whatever words you think you need to describe their contribution to the American music tradition – save your breath. The Congress play Rock & Roll.
