MT. OGDEN 50K/100k at SNOWBASIN – Course Description

(2) 25K Loops and (2) 50K Loops

You will start behind the Grizzly Center next to the John Paul Lift. Head uphill on the single-track and turn sharp left onto the dirt road.  Follow dirt road uphill past the Becker chairlift.  Continue up the road a short distance and make a sharp left onto the single-track Green Pond Trail #11(near metal gate). After you cross the creek keep heading south on Green Pond Trail #11. Stay on the wide ski road and watch for the slight left turn that will keep you on the Green Pond Trail #11 single-track at the top of the climb.

Keep heading south on Green Pond Trail #11 to the junction of Green Pond Trail #11 and Snowbasin Trail #12. Turn right here and head uphill. Go straight across the dirt road at the top of the long climb and keep going uphill on the single-track Green Pond Trail #11.

When the Green Pond connects up with the Summer Access Road Turn LEFT, head south for 1/4mile on dirt road towards Strawberry Lift Terminal. At the base of the terminal you will take a hard left and connect with the NEW Lower Strawberry trail  (Down hill and fast)  follow the new trail until it connects with the old summer access road, than Turn RIGHT, follow it up hill and take a slight left up the mountain on the road at the Strawberry Terminal. Follow the Road until it connects with the Last Chance Trail #10.

Turn Left on Last Chance #10. Follow Last Chance until it connects in with Needles #1.  Turn LEFT at Needles #1 and head up the mountain following Needles up and staying left at Elk Ridge Trail #9 and remaining on Needles #1. Keep climbing on the trail again, ignoring the next merging trail Becker # 8. Keep riding up on Needles # 1.

When Needles #1 intersects with Middle Bowl #7, go straight on Middle Bowl #7. Follow Middle Bowl #7 across the mountain until it connects up with the Porcupine Trail #3.

Porcupine #3 – long down hill section. Follow Porky Trail #3 all the way down until it reconnects with Needles# 1.  You are now back on original 50k/100K course. 

At the junction of Green Pond Trail #11 and Last Chance # 10, stay straight on Green Pond #11 until it joins up with Needles Trail #1.  Be sure to get back on the Needles Trail #1 single-track at the bottom of Willow Springs ski run (watch for the slight left turn).  

Continue north on the Needles Trail #1 until it joins the Maples Trail #13.  Follow the Maples Trail #13 until it meets the dirt road that heads north towards the old Maples Campground.  Follow this dirt road until you come to a right turn onto the Forest Service Wheeler Creek Trail.

Turn right onto the Wheeler Creek Trail and stay on the Wheeler Creek Trail all the way to the Art Nord Trailhead.  Be sure to take the first slight right turn you come to avoid the horse trail and be careful at the bridge crossing. This trail can be very rough in sections. Stay left at the Middle Fork Trail junction and be sure to take a right at the Icebox Canyon junction. (Do not go down Icebox). You will have a bit of an uphill until the final descent to Art Nord Trailhead.

At Art Nord Trailhead turn right onto the asphalt of the Old Snowbasin Road. A short sprint uphill takes you to a left turn back onto the East Fork Trail single-track. 

Follow East Fork all the way uphill to the junction with the Middle Fork Trail. Take a right turn at this junction onto the Middle Fork Trail. Follow Middle Fork Trail downhill until it meets the Old Snowbasin Road. Take a left onto the asphalt of the Old Snowbasin Road and head uphill on the roadway.  At the Snowbasin entrance take a right turn and stay on the main roadway into Parking Lot #1 and Follow into the finish line.

Repeat as needed.

Wildflower Meadow is the start/finish area and also the exchange area for team racers.

Mt. Ogden 50k/100k at Snowbasin – August 28, 2010

Mountain bike enthusiasts – mark you calendars! The Mt. Ogden 50k at Snowbasin was a huge success last summer.  In the fact the event was so strongly supported by the mountain bike community, that it has been expanded to include 100k event and a four-person relay. Registration will be available in April. Watch for more details!
