On Friday night we had a wet storm that deposited rain in Ogden and over 6″ at Snowbasin, which meant that Saturday was a FRESH TRACKS POWDER DAY!

A fair amount of people were able to find lots of great snow just about everywhere on the mountian.  A rare fog inversion had the top of the mountain clear then turning very foggy at about mid mountain.  The call was to use the Porky and Middle Bowl chairs to stay in the clear.  The start of the Grizzly downhill was in prime form as well as No Name.  Plenty of action for everyone.

The visibility eventually cleared up but then we began to experience variable snow conditions especially on low angle, south facing slopes.  Which means…  It got kind of sticky there at the end of the runs.

We rounded out the day with refreshments and the amazing smoked fish plate in the lounge at Earl’s Lodge, listening to the sweet voice and guitar playing of Che Zorro.  Thanks Che for the great tunes!!

What a day Saturday was. I spent the afternoon staying on the high slopes off of John Paul and Porcupine. And let me tell you, I was still finding fresh lines late into the day. If you were willing to explore the wooded terrain, there were tons of great lines with some nice 3′-6′ drop-offs right into some soft fluff. I can’t wait to head back up again.
