SNOW PRINCESSES ARRIVE AT SNOWBASIN – Annual Daddy Daughter Adventure
(Jan 23, 2010) – Spawned from an Indian Princess program out of California, where more 500 dads and daughters participate in various adventures, is the Snow Princesses who have made a new home at Snowbasin. The girls range in age from 5 to 14 years, and represent a mix of snowboarders and skiers.
The founder of Snow Princesses is Scott McFetters, previously of Newport Beach, California. After purchasing a home in the Ogden area, he invited a few friends from the California group to start a new adventure at Snowbasin. In its seventh year, the Snow Princesses have grown to more than 40 dads and 60 daughters on a three day ski trip, with families from California and Arizona, plus new friends from the local area.
Mike, a dad from Newport Beach skiing with his two daughters Linnea (9) and Mary (6), said this is ‘quality time’ for him. For dads traveling with young children without help from a partner, it can be a bit overwhelming. “Snowbasin is a phenomenal place,” said Mike. “They do a great job catering to us dads.” Linnea likes the trip because the instructors are really nice, and her sister Mary said she enjoys the arts and crafts after skiing.
Local resident Russ Wahlen has enjoyed the weekend with his daughters for the past three years, Kennedy (13), Olivia (7). “This is a great chance for me to spend uninterrupted time with my girls,” he said. This year, he also invited his brother Curtis who brought his two daughters. “This is our first year with the Snow Princesses,” said Curtis. “We made a stay-cation out of the ski weekend, and are staying in the Ogden Valley.”
The weekend included three days of skiing, one evening of ice skating in Huntsville, and a hoe-down, daddy-daughter dinner and dance in Earl’s Lodge at Snowbasin.
